What Are the Benefits of All on 4 Dental Implants?

Essentially cost, time, comfort, & health are the primary benefits we hear patients reporting who are enjoying a renewed quality of life after going from dentures to this permanent, healthier alternative solution.

These special types of dental implants can replace all of your upper or lower teeth, depending on what you need. The implants work just like your natural teeth, with strong anchors surgically implanted into your jawbone to hold a bridge or overdenture appliance securely into place.

As time passes, the four implants in your jaw will become part of your jawbone, through a process call osseointegration. The all-on-four dental implant procedure mimics your natural tooth roots, thereby giving you a natural and lasting smile that will stay with you forever.

Here are some additional benefits of the all on four dental implant system:

Immediate Results

When you choose All-on-4 dental implants, you’ll enjoy new, fully functional teeth in no time. You’ll notice improvements in your ability to chew, talk, and eat right away.

Function

With the All-on-4 procedure, you can savor your favorite foods and have better chewing power. This happens by attaching overdentures to implanted posts in your jaw.

Enhanced Appearance

All-on-4 dental implants can restore your natural, youthful smile. Missing teeth and bone can lead to wrinkles, and that sunken in look that is a result of bone loss associated with missing teeth. All-on-4 helps maintain your jawbone, preventing further changes in your facial structure. After an All-on-4 implant, your smile looks natural because the overdenture design is horseshoe-shaped, leaving the roof of your mouth uncovered for a more natural feel.

Stability

All-on-4 implants won’t come loose while you eat or talk. They use four implants for each set of teeth, keeping the prosthetic teeth firmly anchored to your jawbone.

Easy Maintenance

Just like real teeth, implants can be brushed and cleaned without removal. Daily brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups are all you need.

Oral Health = Overall Health

Choosing All-on-4 reduces the risk of gum disease and promotes a healthier mouth. It helps restore your mouth to a more natural state. Furthermore, dentures actually contribute to bone loss, whereas dental implants mimic your natural tooth structure.

No Need for a Bone Graft

Unlike traditional dental implants that often require a bone graft, All-on-4 implants don’t need one. The four implants can be placed at different, denser points along the jaw, eliminating the need for bone grafting.

A Permanent Solution

All-on-4 implants provide a permanent set of teeth with an unremovable, implant-supported bridge. This means you’ll never have to take them out, ensuring a beautiful smile for the rest of your life.

Preservation of Facial Structure

Whenever you lose a tooth, your jawbone loses stimulation, which can cause it to shrink. Dental implants, like All-on-4, stimulate bone growth to maintain your jaw’s structure.

All on 4 Dental Implants Vs. Dentures

Dental implants – whether single, all on 4, or all on 6 – serve as a modern alternative to natural tooth roots, functioning as artificial roots. On the other hand, dentures are removable dental prosthetics designed to replace missing teeth.

An implant-supported prosthesis, such as the kind employed in the All-on-4 treatment, offers several advantages versus dentures:

Fewer food restrictions, so you can enjoy a wider variety of foods.
Improved speech, making it easier to communicate with others.
Increased stability and safety.

Compared to traditional dentures, implants offer a more stable and comfortable solution since they are firmly fixed into your jawbone just like your natural teeth. Conventional dentures, in contrast, are removable and can become less comfortable when talking and eating. Here in Northern VA, while dental implants are a popular choice for tooth replacement, many people are also concerned about the average cost of dentures with extractions, which can vary significantly depending on the specific dental practice and the complexity of the procedure.

The All-on-4 dental implant technique helps prevent the loss of bone density and maintains your existing jawbone structure. Dentures, however, can accelerate bone loss due to the pressure they exert on the gums and the underlying bone.

When asking yourself what is the healthiest solution to one or more missing teeth, the answer will always be dental implants and never dentures. Dentures may cost a lot less in the short term, but you can’t put a price on health, wellness, and quality of life.

Don’t just take our word for it, go search Google for picture of people with dentures and see if you notice the bone loss. Then search for all on 4 dental implants pictures, what do the pictures of all on 4 dental implants all illustrate?

Smiling, happy, healthier people, enjoying an improved quality of life eating the foods they love, never having to worry about messy, sticky adhesives or poorly fitted fake teeth.

All on 4 Dental Implants: What’s Involved?

Placing a dental implant, whether it’s a single tooth implant or the all-on-6 procedure, involves a three-step process. This process includes:

  1. The Implant: Sometimes referred to as a post or an artificial tooth root.
  2. The Abutment: This is like a connector piece that connects the implant to the next part.
  3. The Prosthesis: This is the part that looks like a tooth and can be a dental crown, a dental bridge, or in the case of all on six implants, a complete overdenture for the entire upper or lower arch.

Following your all on 4 implant consultation, Dr. Colospate then performs a comprehensive exam involving the use of digital x-rays, our iTero® Intraoral Scanner, and a Cone Beam CT-Scan, to obtain a 360 degree, 3 dimensional picture of your mouth and jaw structure.

Dr. Colospate will also examine you for any signs of bone loss and take impressions of your existing teeth. The All-On-4 procedure usually does not require a bone graft but it may be necessary, depending on your bone density.

After the examination & 3D scanning phase of treatment, Dr. Colospate will then surgically place the dental implants into your jawbone while you are sedated with either a local anesthetic or with IV sedation.

Following the placement of dental implant posts, a temporary replacement appliance can be attached once the posts have healed, instantly giving you a great smile. In the first three months after the surgery, your mouth is in the healing phase. During this time your gums and jawbone are adjusting to the new implants.

The final step in the all on four dental implant process takes place when your bone has healed and we can attach the permanent overdenture. A new abutment is then attached to each of the dental implants, and a new set of teeth is custom-fitted to the abutments and held in place by the implants.

In time, your new implants will gradually begin to act as natural tooth roots, seamlessly becoming one with your jawbone through the osseointegration process.

Are You a Good Candidate for All on 4 Dental Implants?

If you’re in good health and can handle anesthesia and surgery, you might be a suitable candidate for the All-on-4 procedure. However, individuals taking medications like steroids or undergoing cancer therapy might not be ideal candidates for the All-on-4 procedure.

Some additional risk factors Dr. Colospate will go over with you include:

  • Your jawbone density (~10 mm in each arch)
  • Other missing teeth
  • Presence of chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hemophilia, and autoimmune diseases
  • The condition of your gums
  • Your overall health
  • Your dental hygiene & self care
  • Habits like nail-biting, nightime teeth grinding…etc.
  • Smoking, alcohol, & prescription drug use

Dr. Colospate is here to help you find out if All-on-4 dental implants are a good fit for you. To do this, we’ll take some 3D scans of your teeth, which are like digital pictures, to see if this treatment will work for your situation.

Before we start any treatment, we’ll talk about what options you have, any possible problems that might come up, and what you can expect from the treatment, including payment plans & third-party financing.

It’s important to remember that dental implant treatments aren’t the same for everyone. Your situation might be different from someone else’s, so it’s crucial to meet with Dr. Colospate so she can assess your specific situation. She’ll carefully look at your teeth and your medical history to give you advice that fits your specific needs, in the healthiest manner possible.
